This year one eighth
grader played up and it was Katelynn Clinton.
After the junior high season Star Kibby and Emily Mercer moved up to
play high school. The girls team
started out the regular season strong and ended it even stronger with a big
win over Yakima Tribal to advance to District in Goldendale. The girls’ last
trip to the tournament was in 2005.
The boys team was made up of three seniors, Jamison Wilson, Tyler
Collins, and Tyler Jensen. Two
juniors, Cody Loomis, and Eric Hess.
The teams’ sophomores were Patrick Meader, Andrew Venema, and Craig
Osborne. The two freshman are Edgar
Molina, and Jr. Hernandez. The boys
team also started out the season strong. Although there were some rough
times, they finished strong, also beating Yakima Tribal in a loser out game
by 5 points to advance to the district tournament in Goldendale. It is the
first time the boys have been to district since 2000 and the first time both
boys and girls have been there in the same year in a very long time. |

SPECIAL THANKS TO
OUR SUPPORTERS From the Editors and all the Students In our small school we often ask volunteers
to help us out with our programs. The
BSBA does an enormous amount for our students, and we want to thank them for
all that they do. Special thanks to
Susan Powers and Mary Venema for overseeing the concessions during
basketball. They did a Herculean job, and thanks to all the volunteers who
sold concessions during the games.
Thanks to Marie Miller for doing the finances for BSBA, and to Jim
Chapple and Ric Palmer for taking up the slack wherever needed. We also owe a huge “Thank you” to the
fellows who refereed our junior high home games. Lance Powers, Neal Brown, Ben McBride and
Tom Whitmore all gave their time for the kids. And to you, our fans, you’re
the best! We appreciate all the time
you spend in the bleachers cheering for our teams. Last, but not least, we appreciate all the
parents who sold tickets for us at the high school games. All in all, we feel pretty fortunate to
have a town that supports us. See you
next December when we start it all again! |

Dinner
and A Show The high school band would like to personally invite you to dinner at the
Bickleton Grange Hall on February 23, 2007 at 5:30 p.m.. They will be serving
chicken and/or shrimp alfredo with a side of salad, and an assortment of
wonderful desserts provided by the band. While you eat your dinner, we will
be playing musical movie themes, such as Phantom
of the Opera, John Williams Trilogy, and many more. Band
Students are selling tickets for eight dollars for adults, and four dollars
for five years and younger. All money will go to the purchasing of a new drum
set for the band, and possibly will pay for music for the elementary band to
go to the second year band festival. If you have any questions, please
contact the school office at 896-5473. Thank you for your support of our
music program! |

Elementary Happenings Our Reading First program continues to thrive under the leadership of
Crystal Merfeld and Mary Orcutt as the reading coaches, and with the hard
work of teachers Mary Venema, Rose Dehne and Vickie Nussbaumer. Our students’ scores are some of the best
in our area. Julie McBride’s class is not officially in the Reading First
program, but use the same rigorous reading standards and are progressing
nicely. The science program in the elementary is making use of what they call
“kits” for instruction, and the teachers are very enthused about this new
science curriculum approach. We
purchased a new math curriculum last year and it is having a very positive
impact as well. As our students must
pass the WASL and other tests, it is important that they have intense
instruction, and they are getting these benefits every day. Thanks, Mom and Dad for reinforcing
learning at home, it bears much fruit in their academic lives! |
