Living History  Article By: Cody Loomis

As all of you may know, the ASB did a Living History project last year with people aged 75 plus. This year they are also doing the Living History but it is a little different. The age group is 65-74 years old, and we are doing all of our interviewing here at the library instead of going to people’s homes to interview. This year there are two people on each interview team, and there are six teams. The teams are: Cody Loomis and Tyler Jensen, Eric Hess and Tyler Collins, Morgan McBride and Katelynn Clinton, Dillon Clingan and Jessica Cummings, Chelsey Mercer and Andrew Venema, and Alejandra Molina and Marie Macias. All of the teams have done their first interview, and most teams are on their second or third interview. The Living History gives people the opportunity to talk about the history of the school and community, and how it has changed. After the teams are all done with their interviews, they will edit them, then download them to a Dvd. We’ll do another public presentation and sell the finished product to raise money for more equipment. The ASB would  like to thank all the people who are getting interviewed for making time to help the project succeed.

What’s Your Dream Valentine?

By: Alejandra Molina

Valentine’s Day is a very special day when you get to dedicate your time to your loved ones. Different people enjoy and like different things. After asking people what their dream valentines are these are some of the answers we got. Mrs. Clinton said that she would like to enjoy a date with her husband, David Clinton. Mr. Lang said he would like a nice, quiet evening at home with his wife, and an exciting episode of “Lost.” Rebecca Goodenough answered, she would love to receive a big box of Lindt truffles. When Tricia got asked the same question she said she would like to receive a red and black rose with green tips, and a love letter. Holly Goodnight said she would also like to receive a rose in red and yellow, and a box of chocolates. Asking a couple of boys the same question, this is what they answered. Patrick Maeder said he would love to go on a date with Chelsey Mercer, his girlfriend. Craig Osborne answered the question by saying he would like to go on a date with Carmen Elektra.

As you can see, kids in Youth and Government are not all planning to change the country, but are also trying to have some fun. One of the more serious bills that might go through Youth and Government is splitting the state east and west into two states.  There are also bills on every imaginable thing from fighting invertebrates, to putting Wal-Mart out of business. Youth and Government isn’t all about working in the state capital and trying to pass bills that will affect the entire nation, but it is more of a place to learn and have fun at the same time!

Youth and Government

By: Andrew Venema

Every year Youth and Government delegates who wish to present bills to the O’Brian House and the House of Representatives must first write a bill.  This task proves to be one of the more difficult tasks in the Youth and Government program.  For some, writing a bill is very serious and could affect a large region, but for others, writing a bill could be a humorous part of the task.  For instance, Patrick Maeder, (of the Bickleton delegation) said that there was a bill last year in the O Brian House that tried to make Chuck Norris the state bird, and was actually debated for a half hour.

High School Basketball

This year’s girls’ basketball team was made up of one senior, Chelsey Mercer, and two juniors, Phylicia Pearson, and Jeannette Jarvis.  The two sophomores were Tricia McBride, and Alejandra Molina (who was injured towards the end of the season but was a great asset to the team when she was healthy.)

Be our Valentine!
