Spirit Week

By: Eric Hess

This year homecoming was on January 27, 2007. So that means the previous week was Spirit Week. Each day the students dressed up as different things starting on Monday with “wacky hair day.” Tuesday was “hat day” and Wednesday we dressed up as twins, Thursday everyone dressed up as geeks because it was “geek day” and Friday was “school spirit day”. There were a lot of kids with  painted faces, and one individual, Edgar Molina, had his sister cut his hair and put the letters of BHS across the back, and lines down the sides. That definitely shows awesome school spirit. Overall, most of the kids dressed up the whole week and had a lot of fun doing it.  The dance was held on Saturday, January 27, from 8-10 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.  The BSBA furnished pizza and pop, and we greatly appreciate their donation.  All in all, there were over thirty of us dancing and having fun.  It was a nice way to celebrate, and everyone said it was the most fun they’ve ever had at a school dance!

Junior High Basketball Season

By Katelynn Clinton

Well, another season has come and gone for the junior high team, and they had an awesome season! This year they practiced in the big gym during school so Mr. V could coach all of the 5th  through 8th graders, whether they were players or not. Tyler Jensen also got to help out during P.E. and did a great job. This  is the boys’ basketball team: Sergio Escalera, Peter Clinton, Joshua Cummings, Mitchell Powers, Justin Roberts, Nicholas Venema, JJ Bates, Daniel Clingan, Edgar Alcantar, Taylor Brown, Alejandro Armenta, Omar Lumas, Jonathan Licea. Here is a list of the girls’ team: Kayli Berk, Aymie Osborne, Emily Lehman, Amanda McBride, Star Kibby, Sierra Luther, Haley Goodnight, Kaylee Lehman, Jamie Venema, Emily Mercer. I asked Mr. Venema what his favorite part of the season was, and he replied that he didn’t have a favorite part, but some of his favorite times were morning practices. He also enjoyed coaching, especially home games. He got to coach in the big gym (which doesn’t happen much for his team.) They all were different activities, but were fun.  He said he enjoyed having his two kids, Jamie and Nicolas, on the court. This year sounds like it was loaded with fun, and everybody enjoyed themselves. Good job, you guys! Can’t wait ‘till next year!

A reminder to parents: winter is here so please dress your children for colder weather. Please be sure to listen to these radio stations: KORD-102.7FM and KONA-610AM for possible school delays or cancellations. There is also  a message on the school phone concerning changes.
