A Poem

By: Morgan McBride

 ‘Twas the day after Christmas,

And the house was torn apart.

Santa had already played his part.

The presents were scattered,

And the decorations were tattered.

There wasn’t much of the pie,

…or the rice.

I went downstairs and turned on the tube,

Nothing was on, so I turned on the news.

The anchorman said, “The weather is bad.

And it is the day after Christmas, isn’t this sad?!!”

I poured myself some coffee and went to town

And when I got there

I found the decorations were all torn down.

The more I thought about what I heard on the news,

The more I realized I got the day after Christmas blues.

were given colorful makeup to decorate their mentor’s faces as famous people. Two of the funniest faces were by Justin Roberts and Taylor Brown who decorated Tyler Jensen and Cody Loomis as, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson.  All of the mentors were rather colorful when the 6th graders were done.  Most of the mentors had bright red lipstick. So before we went back to class we each kissed the hand of our mentee, who did our make-up.  It was a lot of fun and with a little bit of scrubbing, all of our faces returned to normal.  Our next mentor activity will be  in February and it  should be a lot of fun!

A Tropical Night

By: Mariela Macias

A tropical night it was.  People were dancing all night long.  This year’s homecoming was a blast.  Our theme was, as you can probably already guess, “A Tropical Night.”  We combined Hawaiian and Pirate themes, which was pretty interesting.  Everyone was having a good time dancing, even the chaperones. I think everyone was dancing because we didn’t have a game that day, so everyone had a lot of energy that night.  We had a couple of guests from different schools.  They were all very nice and it seemed like they were really enjoying the dance.  I asked a few people what they most enjoyed about homecoming, and Ilsa Chapple said, “I liked that everyone got up and danced, even the boys.”  Phylicia Pearson said she liked dancing with everyone, even though she had to use a chair to dance with Tyler Collins.  Jeannette Jarvis said that she just liked hanging out with everyone.

Thanks to our activities coordinator, Alejandra Molina, this party was successful.  Many people actually commented that this homecoming was one of the best that they had ever been to.  Next years’ Homecoming will be even better!

Mentor Program

By: Jessica Cummings

Each year the 6th graders are mentored by the ASB to get them ready for the coming years.  We do this by doing fun, interactive activities together.  This year we asked the 6th graders what kind of things they would like to do. They have chosen some really fun ones.  On January 29th we had our first mentor activity.  The 6th graders
