March 1, 2018

Dear Parents,

This is to inform you that the Bickleton School District is experiencing a very high rate of students coming to school sick or becoming sick at school At this point, 50% of our elementary students are home ill and 25% of our K-12 population are not in school due to illness. We are seeing a variety of symptoms, but some of the main ones are vomiting and fever. Even though your child might not be vomiting or running a fever, they still may be sick. Please pay attention to how your child is feeling and acting in general. Many times parents can tell that their child doesn’t feel well before symptoms manifest themselves.

PLEASE keep your child home if they are not completely, 100% healthy. There are many reasons for this but the top three are:

1)      It is in your child’s best interest to be home where they can rest, recuperate and make sure they are getting enough fluids in their bodies to fight the sickness.

2)      We do not want those children who are sick to infect those children who are not.

3)      If your child is recovering but not at 100%, then the likelihood that they will get sick again is very high because their immune system is not at full strength.

Please be even more diligent about how your child is feeling on this upcoming Monday morning. If there is any question about how they feel, please keep them home so that we can stop the sickness from spreading.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 509 896-5473. The staff will be here on Friday, March 2nd from 9am to 1pm and then will return Monday morning at 7:30.
